Homemade Hot Chocolate

Do you like hot chocolate? I do.

And so do my kids.

A lot.

Have you ever happened to look at the label on a box of hot chocolate?

Warning: what you are about to see may be very disturbing.

Pardon my French, but what is all that crap?

My rule regarding food is the simpler the better.

If I can't pronounce it or find it in my kitchen, we don't eat it.

I know. I know.  Hot chocolate is a must in winter.  Don't worry - I have a solution!

I have the most delicious REAL FOOD hot chocolate recipe EVER.

Stovetop Hot Chocolate

By Shaye Elliot

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup cocoa powder

4 cups organic, raw, grass-fed, whole milk

1 tsp vanilla

teeny pinch of salt

1. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan.

2. Whisk ingredients together while warming over medium heat.  **please be sure not to scald the milk, simply heat until warm**

What's that?? You're running on E? Me too.

On days I need an extra boost of energy I add 1/4 cup of strong coffee to the bottom of my hot chocolate. **please be sure not to accidentally give that mug to your child**  :)

This hot chocolate is the perfect way to warm your kiddos up after an afternoon of sledding.  It also makes wrapping Christmas presents a teensy bit more enjoyable.
